I used to spend a fortune on buying books. In 2019 (before I came to my senses), I had over 90 digital orders for Kindle books. You can see how that would add up quickly. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve gotten wiser and figured out how to cut costs on my reading (yes, the legal way). I’ve put together an amazing and extensive list of where to find free online romance books that I’m excited to share with you!
Where to Find the Best Free Online Romance Books
Monthly Email Book Clubs
There are 5 monthly email book clubs that I know of that send out an email each month with a link to a romance book for free online! These typically work by giving you a special code for Book Funnel where you are then able to download it straight to your device and read it from your Kindle App! Here are 2 of them (and don’t worry, I’m going to tell you how to get the other 3!).
Romance Read of the Month Club
Romance Read of the Month Club is my #1 pick for free romance books. I think they curate great authors and different sub-genres and plots which make for fun reads. They send a new book on the 2nd Friday of each month!
Billionaire Book Boyfriend
If you enjoy the billionaire romance trope, then this is the free monthly book group for you! Every month on the 15th, you’ll receive a steamy billionaire romance straight to your mailbox!
These 2 clubs are a great start to getting free books. If you’re reading a book every 2 weeks, you’re set for the month.
If you’re looking for even more freebie filled emails like these, I have 3 more great monthly email groups just like these that are available if you sign up for my newsletter! And rumor has it, one of these groups is sending out 2 books a month for 2022, so don’t miss out!
Amazon Free Books
Did you know that authors actually make their eBooks free on Amazon sometimes? This is especially true when authors have a series that they want you to get invested in; they’ll make the first book in the series free!
You can find these books, specifically romance, here.
*Tip: Ignore the sneaky Sponsored post books that are NOT free.
Websites that Notify You of Deals
Some websites send out email notifications or display free or discounted deals for the day on their website!
BookBub
Book Bub is one of these websites. You can sign up for their emails or just check on their website for daily deals and discounts on eBooks. They also categorize them into different sub-genres which makes it easy to read what YOU want to read.
Free Booksy
Free Booksy is another website with a similar premise! Free Booksy just has a general Romance genre rather than subgenres, but it still has some great reads available! You might just have to dig a little deeper for the trope you want.
Your Friends
You friends can share books with you! Yes, eBooks too. Like lending a physical book to your friends, it’s taken out of your library, so you can’t be reading it too. It can’t only be leant for 14 days, and each book can only be shared once, so choose wisely when sharing, and hope your friends love you the most! For more instructions on how to share, I found this great article from Digital Trends.
The Library
Don’t sleep on your local library! They typically have programs to lend out eBook!
Not Free, Yet Still Affordable Options
Amazon Prime Reading
This one is so EASY to forget about. If you’re already paying for an Amazon Prime membership, you have access to free books in Prime Reading. I think this benefit used to be lackluster – only allowing you to read 2 books a month or something like that, but they’ve since updated the service to be unlimited reading.
You can check out up to 10 books at a time, and it includes over 1,000 titles that are periodically changing. It’s important to note that books you find in Prime Reading are also available in Kindle Unlimited, but Kindle Unlimited contains many more books – more to come on that.
Amazon First Reads
Another Amazon Prime perk is Amazon First Reads. Each month, you can choose from a list of next month’s new releases that are available before the official publication date. This is your book to keep! These aren’t always romance focused, but I think they typically have a fun rom com or a more mainstream romance available.
Kindle Unlimited
Last but not least, our dear friend, Kindle Unlimited. With over 1 million books available for around ~$10 a month, this is a great way to save money on books, especially when you’re reading romance books and indie authors. I love my Kindle Unlimited account. It has great recommendations, and I can always find something I’m interested in reading.
Don’t forget to take advantage of the free trial or the special new member promos! Black Friday through Christmas typically have great deals where you can get MONTHS for less than the price of 1 month normally.
If you already have a subscription, don’t forget to check out my article on how to save money on Kindle Unlimited. The deal isn’t as good anymore, but it can still help you save a few bucks if you know you want a subscription long-term.
