Native Deodorant for Women
Making the switch to natural deodorant can be a big decision.. There are so many unknowns! Does it work? Will I smell forever? Will it stain my clothes? I know when I switched, I was like, this is horrible! But alas, after a few weeks, things got better. Here are all your questions answered, specifically for Native deodorant for women.
When I was searching for a natural deodorant, I went with Native. They already had a good reputation for being a clean brand with good scents.
If you’re looking for a specific answer to a question, check out the table of contents below!
What’s it like switching to Native deodorant (natural deodorant)?
It’s rough friends. I’m not going to lie.
The first week, you’re wondering why people make it a big deal. You’re fine; you don’t smell. You’re not even sweating that much. That’s because it takes some time for your body to essentially detox all that aluminum that typical anti-perspirant/deodorants have and is plugging up your underarm pores – EW, gross, right?
We’re no longer using anti-perspirants. We’re accepting that some sweat is natural – not in a gross way though!
Week 2 really hits ya. You’re probably going to sweat a lot, and it’s not the most pleasant smell. If you’re still working at home – now’s the time to do this! But keep your arms down and keep trekking on!
Between weeks 2-4, most people level out. The body odor goes away, and the sweating settles down as your body adjusts.
Is it worth it? Does Native Deodorant work?
I’d say absolutely, but that’s just my personal opinion. The only time I feel like I’m still sweating a lot is when it’s 85 degrees outside, and I’m wearing a tank top. That’s not bad. And I still think I smell fresh, so that’s a win. And overall, it’s worth it to me to stop putting aluminum on my skin and in my pores every day.
Tips for adjusting
Some people want to move through the detox phase as soon as possible. While I didn’t try it, there are masks created specifically for your underarms. I’ve also heard good things about the Aztec Secret – Indian Healing Clay mask!
Another option, and this applies even after you’re done detoxing if you’re still experiencing some stink, is to use a salicylic acid or glycolic acid body or face wash! You want to kill bacteria – that’s what’s causing the odor. I’ve started doing the glycolic acid occasionally, just as a refresh!
Apply at night and in the morning! Just like regular chemical deodorant is best applied at night, you can apply natural deodorant at night too! For me, this makes a huge difference. People do sweat at night, so this will keep you staying fresh all day and night!
Does Native deodorant cause itchy armpits?
I’m not a doctor or a chemist, but I don’t think Native deodorant specifically causes itchy armpits. In general, itchiness can be caused by bacteria and build up. So see above, and hopefully it helps a little!
Okay, so let’s get some basics on the brand out of the way.
Is Native Deodorant aluminum free?
Yes! Native doesn’t use aluminum, phthalates, or talc. They use baking soda and magnesium hydroxide instead to help with neutralizing odor.
Sensitive to aluminum?
Well you’re in luck, because Native also a sensitive skin line that doesn’t use aluminum!
What are the best Native deodorant scents for women?
For the most part, they all smell amazing! There are some classics that are always around, but Native also does seasonal scents which is kind of fun. Oh! And they make mini-size deodorants that are perfect for trying out new scents or grabbing one of the seasonal scents just for fun!
When it comes to Native deodorant for women – the Coconut & Vanilla is a fan favorite! I love it too. It’s not overly coconut-y but it’s sweet and keeps you smelling good. I think it’s a great every day scent.
I’ve actually been gravitating towards the Sea Salt and Cedar a lot recently. I think this is the perfect gym deodorant. I’d say it’s a little more on the masculine side, but I wear it, and I think because of this – it holds up really well with gym sweat!
*2023 Update* I’m obsessed with Midnight Jasmine & Sage! It’s the perfect scent for everyday and the gym!!
Other Scent Thoughts
My mom has gotten Powder & Cotton – it’s a little more on the classic or grandma side scents of things.. but she likes it.
Cucumber & Mint – Okay, if there’s one I’m going to warn you away from based on personal trials – it’s this one! This one just does NOT hold up well to sweating. One word to describe it would be ripe. I’m sorry, that’s gross, but it is what is. Stay away.
Who Owns Native Deodorant?
Native was founded by Moiz Ali, but was sold to Proctor & Gamble in 2017.
Does Native deodorant stains clothes?
I have not had any issues with this! Granted – I wear a lot of dark clothing. But for me, no issues. YMMV. I’m sure there are many complaints on the interweb.
What stores sell Native deodorant?
You can buy it here on Amazon. You can also buy Native at major stores like Target, Walmart, CVS, and Walgreens – online or in the store where you can smell all of the smells! You can also buy directly from their website where they have a subscription program – to be honest, I don’t think you save much that way.
How much is Native deodorant?
Native deodorant sells for $11.99! Some websites actually upcharge a little, so watch out for that!
After all that… Have I convinced you to make the switch? I hope this gave you enough information on Native deodorant and natural deodorant in general to make a decision!
