My Thoughts on Watch Your Mouth
I read Watch Your Mouth in May during the Stanley Cup play-offs, so I could tell people I was reading a hockey romance for Stanley Cup season 😊 But we all know I love hockey romance year-round. And I really enjoyed this book!
“Because you burn brighter than anyone else in the room.”
Jaxson
Watch Your Mouth is a brother’s best friend hockey romance with a little age gap – done right!!!
Grace is Jaxson’s teammate’s little sister, and of course she’s off-limits! But he finds her sweet and interesting and can’t stay away when she’s near even though she’s almost 10 years younger than him.
When Grace’s boyfriend breaks up with her, Grace rushes to Florida to stay with her older brother during off-season. Grace lives a nomadic lifestyle, so when Jax tries to cheer her up by offering a “drive” (expecting like a drive down the beach), Grace jumps at the idea of a road trip.
The road trip portion of the book was a lot of fun! I loved Grace’s little daily videos of them. It was fun to see them getting to know each other more and get each other out of their comfort zones. Grace is hilarious, care-free, and silly, while Jax is a little more stoic and responsible. It was such a cute dynamic. But there are reasons for this under the exterior – they both have their own family issues they need to work through.
When they get back from their secret road trip, we get all the forbidden dating and love we crave in this type of romance trope and drama that follows of course. It’s a romance so HEA, but how will these two very different people get there?
“And if you’re a star, then you’re my star — my sun. From this moment on, I only want to exist in your orbit.”
Jaxson
Overall, I thought this book was so good! I loved all the tropes mixed in – hockey, brother’s best friend/teammate, age gap, one-bed, forbidden, etc. I loved how their relationship grew on the road trip, and I liked the depth of the characters and how they helped each other grow. My only complaint would be that I did feel Grace’s youth sometimes and found her to be a little juvenile, but I guess that’s expected when the heroine is young!
