A few months ago, my friends and I tried out Lip Lab in Nashville, Tennessee. We had such a fun time creating our own custom lipsticks! This is such a cool concept, and I’m glad Nashville opened a store. This is a great activity for friends, mother-daughter time, or a bachelorette party! Just make sure to book ahead because the weekend times fill up fast! I’ll be going through the entire process below!
What is Lip Lab?
Lip Lab is a lipstick experience store in Nashville, Tennessee. But, instead of picking out a lipstick from pre-created colors, you work with an in-store specialist to create your OWN custom color. You can create lipstick, lip balm, and a new item – lip gloss! It’s a very cool experience, and you can go alone or book a time for a whole group! Check out their website here!
Where is Lip Lab Located in Nashville?
The Nashville Lip Lab location is located in the 5th & Broadway shopping plaza off of Broadway in downtown. So, it’s extremely convenient for tourists who are spending their time in the downtown area. Unfortunately, this can be a turn off for locals, especially with the expensive price of parking in that area. But I suggest making it a day, grabbing lunch or dinner, before or after your appointment to get your money’s worth!
Grab an Appointment
While Lip Lab claims to take walk-ins, I’d highly expect NOT to be able to walk-in on the weekends. Regardless of when you’re going and how many people are attending with you, you should make an appointment! You want to make sure they have the time, space, and staff to help you!
For a Saturday appointment with a few friends, expect to book at least a month out. Other days have more flexibility, especially weekdays, which is currently running a 20% off special for Monday through Thursday appointments! The Book Now process is pretty straightforward – you select the location, time & date, enter your information and your guests’ information if you have them, and you’re booked!
The Process
The Color Expert we were assigned was so sweet and helpful! We started off with removing our lipstick we showed up in! You’re given a mirror and a bottle of micellar water with cotton rounds to remove your current lipstick and then to use after any future shades you’re trying on.
Then, we were given a little bit of their Agave Weekly Lip Scrub to exfoliate our lips. It’s basically a sugar scrub and made with edible ingredients so we were told we could taste it. I did, and it was actually delicious! *laughing* They sell the scrub and a lip mask at the stores and online, so it’s also some try before you buy marketing!
She asked each of us what shade we were thinking about in general, so she could create a base color to work off. I actually immediately loved my first color – and spoiler – it’s the one I went with! But you get to make 4 colors to try-on so that didn’t stop me from trying a few different versions of a berry color.
Since it was evident, I was going to pick my first color, we got playful for my 4th and final color! They can make wild colors like black, bright blue, and green, so I opted for a bright green color! It was fun, and I suggest trying a fun color if you have time and a real color picked already!
To preface, we all went with lipstick! So, I don’t have details for lip balm or gloss currently. After the color was picked, you choose between a matte, satin, or sheer finish. We all went with satin, so it was a little more hydrating but still solid coverage!
This part really took me by surprise! You can add a flavor to it! I went with vanilla which I was initially worried about a fragrance in my product, but I absolutely LOVE putting it on with the scent now. They also have pomegranate, mango, and mint!
Next, you choose your lipstick tube finish – they have a few to choose from like gold, metal grey, and rose gold. I chose gold!
Lastly, it’s time to name it and get your tube engraved! This was hard; I hadn’t thought about a name for my lipstick at all. I went with an inside phrase (sorry, can’t share ALL the details!), and added stars since you can do a few different emoji type symbols!
The Results
The results are straight forward! Here is my final tube of lipstick 🙂

I had so much fun doing this activity and making my own lipstick! I want to go back and make other colors! Lip Lab is definitely worth checking out in Nashville or any other city that has a location! Such a cool experience to do with friends. I love making memories like this.
