To say I went wild with Black Friday shopping last year… for myself… might be an understatement. Having the motto “one for them, one for me” isn’t the best when it comes to Christmas purchases. But sometimes, you must bring a little of your own joy into your life. And that’s exactly what I did last year.
Without further ado, here are all the items I bought myself last Christmas season that are still available now in Fall 2023, and if I think they’re worth purchasing yourself!
Beis “The Large Work Tote” Mini Review
First up, and one of the most expensive items on my list, I got the Beis “The Large Work Tote” in beige. I saw this bag a lot on Instagram; it’s Shay Mitchell’s travel luggage brand, and I do think their bags are high quality for vegan leather materials. It’s a rigid bag, so it keeps its shape and stands upright on its own, which is really nice because I often travel with my work and personal computers that make bags fall over easily. The worst.
There are lots of pockets, a built-in padded computer compartment, and a removable pouch. I love the shoulder strap for when the bag starts to get heavy. I also love that I can put it on a rolling suitcase securely using the trolley passthrough. I think it’s the perfect work tote, overnight bag, weekender, etc.
I’ve used it on a few trips now – I love how organized it is for computers, medicine, books, my purse, a water bottle, and more! And it has a top zipper unlike other totes! The only downside is that while I use it as a personal item, it fits awkwardly under the seat in front of me because of the rigid shape! It’s manageable though.
Do I recommend? Absolutely. I even bought one for my sister in black for Christmas!
Personalized Signet Ring
Another expensive gift, but this would be a really cool gift for anyone. It’s this signet ring with a personalized engraving of your initials. There are different fonts and metal types available. I love the way it looks on my hand! I wear a lot of silver jewelry, and I didn’t want to worry about the finish wearing off over time with hand-washing and life, so I chose the silver! Pro tip: size up because the thick band makes it tighter on your finger!
DSW Fall & Winter Boot Haul
I also decided to do a little revamp on my winter boots. I bought 4 pairs from DSW with the hope of returning at least 1. That’s not happening; I kept them all. They’re all gorgeous.
Vince Camuto Talanna Bootie
One style I liked so much, I bought it in black and taupe! The squarish toe with stiletto heel and higher ankle cut are truly *chef’s kiss.* It just feels like a power shoe when you’re walking around. Link
Vince Camuto Arendie Boot
I also wanted to get a pair of black knee-high heeled boots to wear with black tights and skirts. These are super sexy and comfortable. I was a little worried these were too tight on my calves, but they stretch out nicely since they’re suede. I’m so happy I bought these last year, as they’re forecasted to be in style yet again this year! Love. Link
Dolce Vita Celia Boot
And lastly, I got a pair of chunky taupe booties that are incredibly comfy to wear. Though, I skip over these often. So I’d recommend really thinking about what use you would get out of these. Link
Amazon Purchases
Would any Black Friday be complete without some purchases from Amazon? Here’s what I picked up last year.
Electric Lighter
So, these lighters seemed to be all the rage as lightning deals on BF, and I had to pick one up. Now don’t play with fire, but this is very fun and cool to light things with. The little spark of electricity between the prongs is very cool to look at it. I’m not sure about the longevity of the product or quite frankly the safety (it seems like something that might just combust one day), but for now, it’s useful!
Update: As of September 2023, my lighter is still going strong, and I think I’ve maybe only charged it once or twice?
Blink Security Cameras
If you want security cameras in your home, I’d suggest the Blink cameras! I already had one for my entryway, but I just picked up another 2 pack to put in various rooms when I’m gone on vacation. I love to be able to see what my cat is up to when I’m away!
Redoux NYC – Luxury Candle
If you’re looking for a luxury candle, I always recommend Redoux’s Candle “529.” I stock up every Black Friday when they’re on a little sale, but these are worth it, even at full price. The smell is absolutely divine and makes me feel like I’m at a luxury spa.
Ulta Beauty Buys
Lastly, I got some products from Ulta. I always love getting my tried and favorite products when they’re on sale throughout the year. Plus a few extra goodies, of course.
Stila Stay All Day Long Wear Liquid Lipstick
Okay, this was a new purchase for me when it was on sale for half price, and I’m so happy I finally grabbed one to try. I love this liquid lipstick, and I can’t wait to try more next time they’re on sale. I got it in the shade Palermo which is a dark brownish red, and it’s spicy and edgy for a night out. It doesn’t transfer much, and it’s actually long-lasting! Must buy. Stila Link
September 2023 Update: I’ve since bought more shades, and I’m obsessed with Capri Shimmer – it’s my go-to color!! Also, grabbed Parma which I like a little bit more than Palermo for a red.
Bare Minerals Brow Gel & Mascara
This past year, I finally got in on the brow gel trend to shape my minimally plucked eyebrows. I’ve really liked the BareMinerals clear gel serum as it’s not a SUPER strong hold, and I don’t need the additional color since I have dark brows. I’m not sure it has made my eyebrows any fuller as it claims, but I like it, nonetheless. For basically the price of the full-size brow gel alone, Ulta has this kit with their mini mascara included as well! The brush for the mascara is kind of weird, but it’s actually a pretty good mascara once you figure out the brush.
Naked Eyeshadow Palette in Heat
I bought the Naked eyeshadow palette in Heat. In my opinion, it has a good mix of brown and red shades, which I really like to use as someone with brown hair, brown eyes, and tan skin. Great pigment as always from this brand. Link
Curlsmith Post-Biotic Calming Conditioner
If you’re looking for a minty conditioner that’s actually “calming” with clean ingredients, I strongly recommend this one by Curlsmith. It helps with scalp health. It’s moisturizing, and I think it would work well for many different hair types! I think this was my 3rd bottle purchase, and I love to grab it on sale since it’s a little pricey for the quantity!
Farewell Thoughts
And that concludes my Black Friday purchases from last year. I spent way too much, but I’ve loved most of my purchases. I hope you found something fun and splurge on yourself every year too – hopefully on sale!
Let me know if you have, want, or buy any of these products – in the comments or over on Instagram! If you liked this shopping guide/Black Friday gift ideas post, I’d love for you to share this post!
