All while Derrick tries not to become too attached to the town, and Jessica keeps her popular clothing boutique running and deals with her high school rival who’s also a witch.
My Thoughts on Enchanted To Meet You
I haven’t read Meg Cabot in many, many years. So, I was excited to pick this book up at the end of October/early November for a late spooky season read. It was a cozy book, but it was just okay in my opinion.
The book felt a little bit more like a paranormal mystery than a true paranormal romance, which is fine. I just felt like the book kept me hanging for a long time without explaining anything. Partially, because Derrick holds a lot back in the book from Jessica, because he’s told to do so by his mysterious boss.
To rid a home of demons, sweep it counterclockwise with a new broom.
Goody Fletcher, Book of Useful Household Tips
There were a lot of fun, novel ideas in the book. I liked that her spell book was the Book of Useful Household Tips and that we got snippets from the book in each of Jessica’s chapters. Jessica had a cool job – her own business, where she was able to use her magic to make customers feel great (of course they don’t know that)! Jessica is also plus-size, and it’s all from a positive standpoint in the book which is enjoyable. Her friends were great, and the little things like trivia night and the Ball made it feel like such a homey town.
Derrick was a huge secret keeper. I found that frustrating. He travels all over trying to stop towns from ruin, and I think more upfront honesty would have made for a better story. Their love story was also lackluster – it just felt kind of blah and arose from convenience. But also, Jessica wasn’t having much in the love department in her small town before, so yay!
Rosalie – the former high school queen bee and now town socialite was… I suppose, the perfect obnoxious antagonist in the story. Poor Billy.
Lastly, Esther, our Bringer of Light and high school student, was so ready to help and save the town. I enjoyed her and Gabby a lot. Their relationship was so cute to see!
