Kai Rhodes is the starting pitcher for Chicago’s MLB team. He’s also a new single dad that can’t keep a nanny for longer than a month – because he won’t stop firing them. His coach decides to hire someone that he can’t fire – his daughter, Miller Montgomery.
Miller is a high-end, award-winning pastry chef that’s booked out for years to consult at restaurants across the country. Unfortunately, she’s burnt out. When her dad offers her a stint as a nanny for a couple of months, she can’t say no. She’ll get to travel to games and spend more time with her dad, and hopefully find some new dessert inspiration before her recipes are due.
He’s the grumpy and serious dad; she’s the edgy and fun nanny. What happens when there’s an expiration date in two months, but it’s starting to not feel like enough?
Maybe he should loosen up every once in a while. He’s got a cute-ass kid and an even cuter smile when he shows it.

My Thoughts
This book’s release coincided with the MLB Baseball World Series, which made it the perfect Fall book in my opinion! I loved the baseball setting, and while I don’t typically love single parent/dad romance books, I enjoyed this book a lot!
Miller and Kai just seemed to fit from the start – they made the perfect little family with Kai’s son, Max. Kai couldn’t even stay grumpy for long; he quickly fell for Miller and threw caution to the wind by ignoring that Miller was leaving soon.
Kai is a baseball star which is cool, but Miller is a badass pastry/dessert chef who wins top awards. Although, I was stressed out for the girl. Imagine having the next 3 years of your life planned all in new cities!? But I was happy that she was rediscovering her love for baking by making things for her friends and family, so wholesome!
I loved Monty’s relationship with Miller and Kai separately. He had so much love for Miller, and it was interesting to see the parallels between him and Kai when it came to caring for their kids – willing to give it all up. His relationship with Kai was both friends, and yet a father-figure in a way which was really touching to read.
A breakout star in the book was Kai’s brother, Isaiah, which makes sense, because his book with Kennedy is coming out next! I was super excited to hear this! I always love a playboy turnaround story. I’ll be looking forward to this next book in the Windy City Series early next year!
